why does my monitor click

Specs: Windows32 
monitor makes clicking noise.also blinks on and off every few seconds,computer is running ,it seems.i left it on all night and woke up to this. it has been doing this clicking for a few days.i ignored it because all was working ok at the time.now its blinking on and off and clicking it is windows 98 vista home 32 bit

I would suggest it is either the monitor itself (most likely) or the graphics card. You need to beg or borrow another monitor to prove the point, or try yours on someone else's computer.

If it is an old CRT monitor it is probably electrical discharge, although some relay could be doing it. Whatever monitors are not repairable and CRT monitors contain high voltages which can hang around for days even when unplugged.

Unless you have expertise in the servicing of CRT monitors or televisions, don't even attempt it. You could suffer a nasty shock or even much worse:
