Why does my hotmail say every attachment has a virus?

Specs: Vista
When I try to open, save, copy, or do anything with ANY attachment in hotmail/outlook. A message tells me that the attachment has a virus and has been deleted. It even happens if I open hotmail in Google.

It is possible that your system has a virus.

What program is giving you that message?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hotmail is rife with viruses, as are most free email services. You should use the email service provided by your ISP wherever possible.

As a virus is suspected then it won't hurt to install this freebie, which is particularly good:

The quick scan is sufficient - let it fix anything it finds.

Let us know the source of the message, as requested. Further action might prove necessary. You might even have a bogus antimalware program running.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Absolute nonsense. I've been using Hotmail and Yahoo for years and never encountered a single virus. Viruses don't just magically show up in your email. And Microsoft isn't going to ruin it's reputation with an email system full of viruses.
