why do i have two desktop icons for one progr

March 11, 2013 at 06:57:32
Specs: Windows Vista
I have had Word 7 with its desktop icon for a long time. Now I keep getting a second icon. Both open Word properly. I can delete it, but it comes back next time, and says it is opening Word. Why? How can I stop it. I do not want to just uninstal all of Word as I have hundreds of files in it.

Desktop icons in windows vista are stored in two folder locations:

C:\Users\Public\Desktop

C:\Users\<Your username>\Desktop

Try deleting the file from one/both of those locations and see if the problem persists.

Sorry for the delay, but I've been busy.

Yes, I do have both of those files.

But how do I delete one of them, please?
(Presumably I should delete the 'public' one.

Chris Bradley.
