Where is Safely remove hardware icon in Vista

March 17, 2011 at 18:21:34
Specs: Windows Vista
directions on Pandigital Novel read:

1."On the Windows System Tray, click the hardware removal icon."
2."Click the safely remove USB mass storage device message."

I clicked on the control panel and went through both versions (classic and traditional), but was unable to find either icon or message when clicking on System management.

I'm sure it is staring me in the face but I can't see it. Please help. Thanks, Vada

You need to look at the group of icons on the taskbar at the bottom right near the clock (Notification Area, previously called System Tray) not the Control Panel. The icon might have got hidden, if so click the expander on the left of the icon group.

If it is hidden it can be unhidden via the Start Menu > right click Properties > Notification Area > Customize.

Please come back and let us know how you got on.
