✔ Best Answer
It means that the harddisk on your computer is about to fail, and that you should immediately make a copy of any data you don't want to lose. The message appears from the harddrive's own self-diagnostic system and it's usually fairly accurate in predicting that it has problems.

All you can do is make the copy of data and then get the harddrive replaced - they cannot be repaired.

How long is a piece of string? It depends on how large a hard drive you are replacing, what sort of harddrive it is, and whereabouts in the world you are. Then you have to add on the possible cost of reinstalling Vista if you have never got around to creating your recovery disks.

As you will be opening the case to replace this then having to setup the new hard drive you might be better off taking it to a repair shop.

Main thing is to get you important stuff off ASAP before it dies.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

By the time you go out and spend the money for a new drive, find and or create recovery disks, and install it all, you still end up with an old computer. While you are shopping for a replacement hard drive, consider a new computer. You may find an entire new computer that is faster, more everything and comes with with a better OS if you pick Windows 7. I would do it before they only sell windows 8 systems. I think windows 8 stinks.
