Note that it requires a registry entry to be deleted. If you are not comfortable doing this seek assistance from someone who knows how to do so.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Windows Mail still works? I thought it changed over to Outlook? Why did you wait so long before attempting to fix the problem? It would help to know what type of files you're having issues with but have you tried saving the attachments to your computer & then opening them?

Dear Riider.

The program is called Windows Mail. I have tried at various times to fix the problem but was never successful. A computer repair shop kept the laptop for one week and was not able to solve the problem. All attachments will not open no matter the file type. Also I have tried to move the file to other places and then open it but have not been able to do that either. James Stone has offered a solution that I have not tried yet of deleting Windows mail in the Registry and then have Windows reload the default values on boot up. I am cautious about doing this.

Thanks for your help.

Windows Mail is an outdated email client program that originally came with Vista. It was replaced by Windows Live Mail in 2007. And the last version to work with Vista was released in 2012. Not sure if you've been keeping up with the updates or not.

You didn't state which email you're using thru the Windows Mail client but if it's Hotmail, you should have switched over to Outlook.com some time ago.

Dear riider,

The Windows Vista on my Hp laptop has a copyright of 2006. I do not know what client I am using. My email provider is windstream.net. I am not very adventuresome about trying new things because I have been dissappointed so many times trying to get software to work correctly.

Thanks for your enlightenment.
