Vista Improvement Query

March 3, 2009 at 01:44:11
Specs: Vista, 2.Gb Ram
Haven't used Vista for months.
Tried Win 7 Beta seemed far better.
Tried Vista again, did a large update/download and Vista now seems to be running better (faster, tolerable).
Is this as good as it gets until Win 7 appears.

I assume that you downloaded Vista Service Pack 1, which is a definite improvement. I would doubt that MS will release any more service packs for Vista, so it is probably as good as it gets until the full release of Windows 7.

Thanks, XpUser-I didn't realize(or maybe I forgot) that SP2 was close to being released for Vista.

You're welcome, kx5m2g. As a matter of fact, I forgot about the upcoming SP2 until you mentioned it. In essence the SP2 is more of a cumulative update that consolidated all the hotfixes, security patches, etc, released since SP1. You can get the general info about what to expect from SP2 HERE. If you are curious for greater details, you can go HERE to download the Excel-based Hotfix list.

Updated:

Yesterday (March 3) M$ has made available to the public SP2 RC in Five Language Standalone DVD ISO file format (about 1350 MB) that you can download from HERE.

If you are not in a hurry and can wait another month or two for the final version, the better off you will be.

Otherwise the RC is a time-limited software that must be uninstalled before you install the final version. Also, this RC software will no longer work after May 1, 2010.

More feedback using Vista, after having kicked it into touch for several months!!!!!!!.
Now, having used Vista with the SP1 download for a couple of days must say how improved it is.
Definitely usuable now.
Only wished I have upgraded to the SP1 sooner. My advice is definitely go for it, the 'SP1'.
