Specs: Vista 64bit
I have a pavillion dv2988se. I performed system recovery. I need to set up windows. Windows set up screen can not be accessed because the touch pad and the keyboard are not functioning. I tried HP support, but it is not helping my situation. Do I have to recover again? It took me all evening until this morning. Is there another way you experts can help me?

I would use a USB keyboard and/or mouse to complete the setup. You need to go online and get the drivers for the components, in this case probably including the chipset. These usually are on the supplemental disk which I believe you said is missing in another thread. It may be easier to download them using a different machine and then bring them over on a usb stick or dvd disk. Or bring over just the network drivers so you can download directly.

Usually you can use the Tab key, and Shift-Tab, to mouse around to various control buttons. Then use either Space or Enter to press them. The Space key also will check checkboxes. A mouse would be a lot easier, but this might get you through until you can load a touchpad driver.
