Vista computer won't shut down

Specs: Windows Vista, 3.0gz / 2gb DDR2
I reformatted my HDD about 5 days ago and have successfully installed everything. Everything is working fine until I noticed last night that windows is getting slower and slower at shutting down. It boots up flawlessly and everything else works fine.

When I hit the shut down / log off / restart button it just acts like nothing happened and then after a cpl minutes it will slowly shut down. At that time I can still open up like my computer and folders/etc. but I can't click on anything in the quick links on the taskbar.

Not sure if this is related but I have also noticed that sometimes after I dbl click a program it will look like it is going to run but then it doesn't. Usually when I dbl click it the second time around it works fine.

mavis did you read the italic about the fast sutdown?
Although it has never been reported, regular usage could possibly cause disk corruption.

Try logging out before you shut down

I am still having the same problem and none of the above suggestions have helped.

I have gone into event viewer to look for any errors that are occurring during shutdown and I am getting nothing. I uninstalled a couple programs that I suspected and that did nothing.

I didn't try the "super fast shutdown," didn't trust it.

I finally figured out what the problem was. It was a creative application for my X-fi extreme music sound card. . . for ppl with the same problem it was, I believe, ctxfispi.exe. I went into msconfig and disabled the file from loading (it was labeled as a creative help application or something, whatever) disabling it solved the problem completely.
