Vista computer all of a sudden wont boot up

September 3, 2010 at 15:20:04
Specs: Windows Vista
My computer was on one morning and i left for about an hour. When i came back it was off. I turned it back on and nothing came on the screen. The monitor works but nothing comes up. Also the mouse and keyboard dont have any power coming to them. They are both USB connected and i tried both in the front and in the back ports and neither work. Please advise any particular causes! Thanks!

The likely cause here would be power supply or motherboard failure. Unfortunately neither are very easy to diagnose without being at the PC, but since you mention that the power was off when you came back, I'd start with that. It could actually be both, but the power supply is easier and cheaper to replace to start with.

well... the power supply is working because the computer is powering up. It's just not supplying power to the usb ports nor is the system booting up. I was thinking it was a fail motherboard but i dont like to guess about things like this, replace the part, and be wrong :P

I appreciate the reply!
