Specs: Windows Vista
I have a laptop with Vista. I installed Microsoft Office 2000. After doing so, I cannot open an Excel spreadsheet or Word documents. This is the same if I create one on the Vista laptop, and when I forward one from anothe computer.
What steps can I take to fix this?

Vista was designed to work with Office XP, 2003 and 2007. Have you installed Office 2000 on any other Vista systems? XP was the last OS that could work with 2000 with no problems.

If you are unable to get a copy of Office 2007 then try XPUser4Real's suggestion of compatibility mode.

MS Office 200 will work with Vista and Windows 7 32bit
if you run them under Compatibility mode. I have not tried it in 64bit, so not sure about it.

Also if you are trying to open MS Office XP, 2003, or 2007
documents with Office 2000, you will need to down load The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack
for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
This Patch is for Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, to Open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.
