uTorrent interfered with all Vista programs

Specs: Windows Vista
Tried uTorrent for the first time. When the program finished downloading I attempted to open it doing this:

Right click -> open -> [prompted to select program to open with] selected uTorrent

Since it's Vista it took about 5 minutes to scan the 1.5 gig download before opening it, so everything up to this point was normal.

When Vista finished scanning, uTorrent said it could not open the file. On top of that, my computer somehow set uTorrent as the default run program for EVERYTHING(everything had the uTorrent symbol for it).

I have tried uninstalling uTorrent(still is) and got nothing. Tried re-installing programs and still nothing. It took me a while to even get this browser running and I had to go 'behind the scenes' just for it.

My computer cannot run any program, even those built into Windows itself(Windows Media Player ect) and cannot locate(even through the web) how to run them. 90%-100% of the programs are .exe

Any idea's?

You better run system restore.

It won't even run system restore. It gives me the same thing as everything else.

When I go to run any program(even system restore) it opens the prompt window to choose which program I want to run it with. None of them work.

Trying it from safe mode w/ command prompt should work.

This time you're lucky. Next time you may not be so lucky. Stay away from uTorrent and anything BitTorrent.

XpUser,

The problem here is not so much with using a torrent client, it looks like the OP had a careless PEBKAC moment & this can happen with just about any application ... good thing he didn't have System Restore turned off :-)
