Almost every company offers the user some way to create disks. Make the disks now for protection or consider ordering them if you need to.

Generally companies that sell laptop hard drives also offer some way to clone the old one over. You may have received a usb to sata adapter or you may need to get one. You also may need to download the software from the hard drive makers site if it didn't come in box.

Seagate has two programs that can clone the entire contents of a hard drive to another hard drive, if and only if one of the hard drives is Maxtor or Seagate - MaxBlast, which is a "crippled" version of Acronis software (as in, you can copy the entire contents of the hard drive but not individual partitions), and another one that I have not tried (Disk Wizard ?) .

You can either connect the new drive to your computer one way or another, or connect both your drives to another computer that is running Windows, clone the orginal drive's contents to the new drive, then install the new drive in your computer.

Reflect is free imaging software that will allow you to clone the hard drive to the larger size drive.
