Unable to delete any file off my PC

Specs: Windows Vista
Over the past few days I have been having trouble deleting .dat files (leftover files from all the torrent downloads). When I try to delete them, the dialog box is stuck on discovered 0 items. Now when I try to delete other files, the dialog box is stuck on Calculating and nothing gets deleted.

What do I do to fix this?

Try unlocker.

An alternate thing to try. Open a command prompt in vista by typing cmd and then hitting enter in the search box or run box on vista. Should bring up a black box window you can type in: type in this command and hit enter

net user administrator /active:yes

If the command completes successfully it will enable the built in hidden administrator account to become visible on the login screen of windows. So if it completes, restart the computer and you should see your user plus the admin account now. login with the admin account and try deleting the files from your user. If they delete ok. Type in cmd again and this time in the black box type:

net user administrator /active:no

That will rehide the admin account and your user will be the only one again. Note syntax is important the spaces I put in count, and your user account must have admin privileges. Just another thing to try. Malwarebytes also has a program in it called file assassin which you can try(it's free), Move on Boot is another or you can try removing it using dos commands which works when all else fails, so let us know if any of these are working for you.
