Did a Windows Update and after could not get online. Tried to do a system restore and it did no good so I went back a week earlier and the restore has been running for almost 24 hours, I'm afraid to touch it!! Did I go back too far?? Did I kill it????

I doubt you killed it. It should only take 10 minutes. Might as well try ctrl-alt-del. If nothing then you almost have to use the power button. Press one time and see if it will shut down. If not then press and hold.

well, it finally stopped and I had a message that the system restore didn't complete. I'm still left with the original problem, I can't get online. I did a total reset of all my internet settings and that didn't work. Is there a way to undo/uninstall the individual windows updates that installed just prior to this happening?? And will this work?

Well, yes and no. The problem is that if you can't do normal things then there is some problem that might limit any of your repairs.

I thin maybe you should consider booting to Vista and try to use repair tools. I think there is also sfc.exe or the equivalent in vista.

I caved in and called microsoft security support, not being able to get online was due to a conflict with Windows Vista and my Trend Micro Internet Security. Was an easy fix, just had to change a setting with Trend Micro.

As always thank you so much for the replies, this site has saved me over and over.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
