transfer data from one hard drive to another

Specs: Windows Vista, E8600 3.33GHz/8 GB
How do I...transfer all of the data from my 160 GB Samsung HD161HJ Hard Drive to my new 2 TB Western Digital WD20EARS ???? I know there are programs like ghost and xcopy , but is there any other way ???

Well, there is always just copying. I did it once to upgrade my hard drive, and the OS worked fine except for the Office 2010 (probably just needed a reinstall). Everything else worked fine. Using the disk copiers have a much better chance of keeping everything working, and I would recommend them more that just copy and paste.

Jimbo58515 it depends on how you define data.

OS / installed applications can not be transferred by coping.

Please clarify what it is you want to transfer.

Almost all hard drive makers have a program to do that. See the WD site.

Many other ways exist too. dd in linux, tar, cpio, and distro's like clonezilla and partimage.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
