Because Vista is too bloated it takes up too much resources, you can 'turn down' the visual effects--> http://www.itechtalk.com/thread2917...
If you have norton that will make your computer slower.
Any start up programs will make the boot process slower.
Noticed you have 1GB RAM, i would upgrade your RAM to at least 2-3GB-
You can find your Ram type on this website---> http://www.crucial.com/

Or a simpler way of making it faster is either install windows XP or 7

I agree that your system may be slow to begin with and maybe ram may help.

Usually the score is the score and no amount can change it. Only the worst part is the 3 and other parts may be higher.

Before I'd waste any money on it, I'd look for a new system. Might be worth it as you get windows 7 (or 8 if you are crazy) and a warranty and even lower models may rate a 4 or 5 out of the box.

If you really need it to speed up, you may have to reload the OS from OEM media.

Hang up and live.

The scores are only numbers, doesn't prove real performance.
A computer with a base score of 4 can still be slower than one with a base score of 3 ( as an example).

The lowest part of the test results in the final score. If one has a single 3 and the rest are 5 then one may be able to do some change that could raise the lowest number.

I'd reload the OS from OEM media before I wasted any money on new ram. If it still stinks then see if you wish to pay for ram or new computer.

Every MS operating system past DOS slows down after time, Registry gets larger, left over stuff, out of date files and maybe malware all cause the system to slow down.

Hang up and live.
