Specs: Windows Vista home premium
hi all--i have a problem with my laptop and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice

The laptop is going slow--not snail-like but slow enough to bug the crap out of me!--i have used diskclean up, disk defragmenter, deleted internet history, disabled any programs on startup that not necessary--when i got the laptop it was running nice and fast--even now on the internet it runs slow--trying to run paint shop pro x2 and its snail like--i have installed the same program on my fathers lower spec laptop and its 5 times quicker---i have run AVG virus scan and Spybot SD and no problems identified--on the windows(visa) hard drive i have 29gb free of 74gb--on the local disc(E) i have 21gb of 73gb free

the specs: toshiba satellite
Processor: intel (R) core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5800@2.00GHZ

Memory(RAM) 3.00GB

System type : 32-bit Operating system

Windows Vista

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

My standard answer is to reload the OS from factory disks or in other words return to OEM factory state. That is if you were happy when you bought the thing.

Dunno what happens to MS stuff. Every OS they have offered slows down for one or more of 200 reasons. No exact method that I have seen seems to fix it all the time except the clean install.

You can play with resource monitor and maybe download some other tools to try to diag what is causing it and then try to repair it. A log is usually only effective when you have a known baseline from OEM state to compare to.

I tend to make a good install with all the programs and updates and then make a backup of that to return to. It saves a bit of time.
