First see if it has a restore partition already on it:

If so boot to that and let it restore everything. If you don't have the restore partition and need to do it from regular installation disks you basically boot from the vista disk, delete the existing vista partition and then choose to install it in that space. If you google install vista several step-by-step sites come up. Here's one:

Be aware too that a factory reset/restore wipes "all" files - including any personal "stuff" - the "stuff" you wouldn't wish to lose... So first copy all that "stuff" to external media - typically DVD at least; and ideally an external hard drive too. Check the copies are accessible too on (if possible) another working system as well as the one that made them.

This is another way to invoke/use the compaq recovery partition to achieve what you want; a factory gate/delivery status again...

This is a link to a copy of the manual for your Toshiba; and will cover most things you may need to know; including factory resets via the recovery partition (or not...).

and this is the "official" toshiba support area for your model; includes "all" manuals etc (as downloads) for your model. Worth a visit/browse too?
