the sound card on my pc doesnt work anymore.

Specs: Windows Vista
If I buy a USB sound card, will that solve the problem? If not, what will? I just want it for listening to music & stuff, not gaming. I would rather have something external, since I dont know a lot about taking computers apart. Please help!

It may solve the problem, but first, what is the issue (and history) of the sound card you have now? (i.e.---suddenly stopped?, only one speaker?, etc.) It may be easier (and cheaper) to just diagnose the one you have. Could be a matter of bad speakers as well...

Does your system have an actual sound "card" or is the audio chip integrated into the motherboard? What makes you think it's bad? As asked above, have you tested the speakers? Are you sure the volume is turned up on everything and/or not muted? Did you check Device Manager to make sure there isn't a problem with your sound drivers? Do you have a volume icon in the notification area on the taskbar?
