the taskbar on the bottom of my monitor does not show up, but it does when the computer is turned off. i get the windows start button on the lower left side, but not the desktop picture and my hidden icons on the right do not show

I assume you mean that it shows during the process of turning off. Right click Start button then go to > Properties > Taskbar tab.
Make sure there is NOT a tick in "Auto-hide the taskbar".Please come back and let us know how you got on.
do what derek said and if that doesnt work try going to microsoft fix it and let it fix it for you
derek, i did what you said, now i have the windows start up button, the "e" for internet, mozilla firefox, documents, programs, e Internet, everything that was on the left side, is now on the right side, my programs don't show up on the left side, everytime i hit a key i can hear a click noise and i have to watch my monitor to see it the letter or number or symbal printed, my printer, moni copier, fax does not work, the (moni) that i have typed acidentily, i can't backspace to get rid of. the tabs that are suppose to be on the bottom when you are online/ different pages are on top of the page, the back arrow has enlarged, can't make it smaller. any suggestions? can you call me to walk me through the steps to clean this computer mess up?
have you tried a system restore back to before the problem?
