Setup and autorun problem

Microsoft Windows 7 home premium

Specs: Windows Vista, not sure (new laptop)
I am trying to run a setup.exe or autorun.exe of a program on vista. The user account control pops up so i click allow, then after that an error pops up "this program might not have installed correctly" either option i choose doesnt fix the problem. iv evan fiddled round with the compatibility settings and nothing.?

Right click on the setup program and run as admin.

The program should also be a program known to work on Vista and your 32 or 64 bit version.

I run the setup.exe as admin, allowed the user account control and then the command prompt pops up for 2 seconds then dissapears and nuthing happens after that?? is the exe damaged?
