Reinstalled Vista wont recognize modem/wireless graphic crd

January 4, 2012 at 19:22:59
Specs: Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, Intel Core (TM)2 quad / 4.00 Ram
I bought my HP compuer in 2009 and it has never successfully updated
to installed Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET
Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x64
I'm no tech but as a result I have had increasing problems with
installing and operating programs, and now windows installer seems to
be corrupt.(maybe the issue is viceversa, hence the trouble loading
Service pack1)
I finally talked Microsoft into sending me a Vista disc to reinstall
as my computer came preloaded. I reinstalled and vista would not
recognize my modem, wireless card, graphics card, etc.
I used windows.old file to restore the old OS but now I have even less
functionality -- many programs wont run. IE9 wont recognize pictures,
video or drop-down menus
I guess my question is how do I install and get the new OS to
recognize my modem, wireless card, graphics card, etc? My system did
not come with a driver disc.
i cant afford a new computer -- any thoughts would be appreciated...

Actually you should have contacted HP for a Re-installation disk and Drivers disc.

Thought you may have a hidden restore partition:

Most HP's in fact have a hidden recovery partition which you access sometimes by pressing F11 on startup, sometimes it is F10 or alt+F10....try and see if you have a recovery partition....that is why they don't come with the disks.

i reached out to HP a number of times and when i finally got a response, they were not helpful. I will try again and see if asking specifically for the reinstallation discs and drivers will get me somewhere.
i will try the hidden recovery partition tonight.
Thanks for the advice! I will repost after I give it a try!

no dice....the startup screen indicates I should push F11 to restore system but no effect....also tried F10 and alt-F11 and alt F10.....still booted up normally....

ok so without a recovery partition, you will get Vista back with the disk but not the programs etc.. Back up your data. Do a clean install. Now you may have to get to a computer with ethernet working you can use and atleast download the drivers for your system from HP. Since you have no listed the exact make/model of this computer I can get you to the drivers/downloads page....input your system stuff as required and download the drivers for your unit, or at least the ethernet drivers so you can download the rest. Make sure you select the proper operating system
