reinstall software on fresh copy of vista 64 bit sp2

October 30, 2013 at 09:47:02
Specs: windows 7 ultimate, P4 HT 3.2 3gb ddr
i just upgraded my system software from vista 32 bit to vista 64 bit sp2.
i need to reinstall PCMiler which i have on a flash drive, and i've used the drive to install the program on a number of machines. this time i'm getting error messages such as

cannot open bitmap file
file not found: C:\PMW120\GRDATA\styles.ini,
unable to open file: C:\pmw120attrib.grd. execution terminated,

PMW120 is the name of the folder containing the PCMiler program.
i also got error messages about 32 vs. 64 bit OS. but that didn't matter before today. the program always installed like it should.
can you help me figure out how to get my program installed?
thank you so much

Have you tried right-clicking on the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator"?

I suspect that Pcmiler has made updates or has suggestions on updates that you need to have in order to get this to install properly on 64bit systems. Most of these proprietary programs were designed for 32bit and have been forced into upgrade releases to accomodate 64 bit. I suggest you check with Pcmiler support for 64bit on their website.

For example 32bit version drivers for pc's do not work at all when you switch to 64 bit O/S, you must download 64bit versions of the drivers or you need an updated 32bit version that was enhanced to accommodate 64 bit systems. It would not surprise me if the updates resolve some issues, but I found info on their site.

thank you for the response
the thing is, i've installed the program successfully on both 32 and 64 without a hitch.
my system is still updating and i'm hoping it will do the trick.
i have version 12 of PCMiler. it's very old but the basic program fills my needs.
also just today i bought a license for unlimited driver software downloading, and after updates finish i'll be getting even more software.
i was figuring on like a command line solution i could just plug in and my program would install.
i'll get back to you after all the other stuff is done
later

good morning,
updates are finished installing, all drivers are updted as well. i also ran Registry Repair Pro and came up with 39 errors which all got corrected.
i tried again to install PCMiler and i'm getting the same error messages, even after running as administrator.
i even tried using a file opening program and it found no errors.
what do i do next?

Well, I am kinda curious as to why it's trying to open its files from the root of the C: drive.

i don't know the answer to that.
i'm curious about why it installed several times on different machines with different OS's and now it won't install.
can i email you the program and you try to figure it out?

Not unless you can also email me the system in question.

• Make sure %TEMP% is valid and empty.
• Copy the installer to some folder on the hard drive, and attempt to install from there.
• If all else fails, run Process Monitor, and try to see what the installer's attempting.

i did all three things on the list, and still no luck.
and i keep running into the same thing, the version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows. but it's installed on other machines in this office and working just fine.
i don't get it.
