Reformatting error

June 26, 2009 at 18:37:18
Specs: Windows XP
When I insert the System Disc and boot from the CD-Rom Drive, it begins the installation process, asks what language you would like the installation to be in and the comes up with an error:

Error In GetMapCDDrive ()

I know only the basics about reformatting a computer. Does anyone know how to correct the error?

Thanks

It could be as simple as the CD is dirty. Clean it & try it again.

I tried that already with a special cleaning solution that cleans and fixes surface scratches and a special cloth. There shouldn't be anything wrong with the CD though, I just purchased it through Gateway.

Then it could be the CD drive itself. Do you have another one?

It's a brand new computer for the most part, but yes I have another drive. Can I install a CD Drive from a Compaq into the Gateway? Is there anything special I would need to do other then connecting up the corresponding wires?

Try it. You have nothing to lose.

The Drives don't have the same ports in the back of the drive to even try it.

Do you have any other possible solutions?

Thanks

No I purchased a Recovery Media Package online from Gateway. After booting the OS from the DVD/CD Drive, I get the Error Message. It is Vista OS on the system, at least that is what the rep on the phone informed me it was.
