Recover lost (overwritten) MS Word file

February 12, 2010 at 09:30:29
Specs: Windows Vista
I restarted my computer to install Vista update. When I reopened Word, I resaved the file I was working on. Later I discovered I had lost 1/3 of the file. I can't find a copy of the old, complete file. I'm trying PC Tools File Recover right now. Any other good options?

If you overwrote the original file with one of the same name containing less information you can not recover the file.

There is nothing to recover.

You can see if the temp file [which is deleted by MS automatically upon close] of the full doc can be recovered. The deleted temp file would be in the same folder as the original.

Some days ago I worked with word file and something must have happened... After this file was corrupted and I didn't know what to do next. But fortunately I found in the google next software, which changed my mind - how to recover word file. Utility recovered my word file in seconds and without payment as far as I remember. Tool showed me how it works with text files of various formats: Microsoft Word documents and templates of various versions (.doc, .docx, .dot, .dotx files) and Rich Text documents (.rtf files).
