Most laptops have had the OS installed as part of the OEM. In most cases you do not need to enter the key. The key is there for legal reasons but it is actually tied to the motherboard or bios.

In short, you cannot use that product key for anything other than the pre-installed copy of Windows on that PC.

The key should work. The question is: What message are you getting when you try to activate with it. If it has been abused, then it might have been blacklisted.

The other requirement has to do with the SKU you are installing. For example, you cannot use the key licensed for Vista Home Basic to activate Vista Ultimate.

What SKU is the license affixed to the machine for & what version did you install?

So I guess we are saying, "What exactly are you using and trying to do to what?"

Do you have two Product Keys on the bottom of the laptop, one for Windows Vista and one for Office 2007 ?

If you have one Product Key and if it is for Vista, it will not work for Office 2007. You have to buy a licence for Office 2007.
