Restore to factory setting problems

I would be vey grateful if anybody could help me. I have a HP laptop. Windows Vista. I got a really bad virus on my laptop and now it does not operate properly at all - screen resolution to big, some programs not accesible, unable to use various functions.

I can't even do recovery manager - either from the partition on the laptop itself or by using a recovery disc.

I get the following message:

Restore7exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0x77982086 referenced memory at 0x900b472e. The memory could not be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

Please help me! THANK-YOU.

Seems to be a common problem with little resolution.

One post suggested to keep pressing the enter key until it works. Dunno.

I'd first guess it to be bad memory or bad disk. Since there are so many posts on it, I'd email tech support at HP for maybe a better answer.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
