opening zip drive in windows from mac

i saved a paper on a zip drive on a mac and am trying to continue typing by opening up information on a windows pc but it keeps telling me can not open file how can i open

You need a program that can read the mac file. Then convert the
file from the mac application to a windows application. It might
be easier the read it on a mac, then convert it to a windows app.

Are we saying a zip as in compressed? Or are you saying a zip as in the old ZIP drives that look like big floppies?
I think to make both mac and pc use the ZIP disk drive they had a very unusual dual formatted disk. Not sure you can get microsoft to read that hfs format or whatever it is. Might be able to boot to live linux cd and view it that way.
