My mate is having a sound problem with his PC... He's on vista and for some reason hes not getting any sound at all not even on Windows itself... Could anyone give any suggestions as what the problem could be and how can I solve it? I've checked in regedit and stuff nuthin there... I checked device manager look there also. I have even checked all sound settings to make sure that it's not muted. And still no luck....

Please help. Thanks

Not too sure why you mention regedit as top of your list for
troubleshooting but anyway, start with the obvious - the
speakers, have you tried swapping them out or plugging in a
pair of headphones. Next, in Device Manager, is his
soundcard actually listed? or were you just looking for
asterisks? If the soundcard is listed, check it to make sure
it's shown as 'working properly'. Next, under sound & audio
devices/sounds, check that sounds are associated with
Windows errors etc. Then look at the volume tab, click on
'Advanced' & double check there are no mute boxes ticked.
