Hi.

I am having a problem with my PC. Windows Vista has been updating a lot recently and all the sudden my sound device seems to have stop working. When I look in my Sound Settings, nothing is on mute and my audio device is shown saying "Working". But when I open up one of my songs in Windows Media Player I get the

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

I have no sound on any programs or any of my Web Browsers. When I click on the volume mixer it shows the all the programs I have at 100% volume. I have installed all the latest drivers for it. Looked in the Device Manager and it says the device is working correctly. I have made sure that all the connections are correct, and have restored my system.

I am using the Realtek High Definition Audio (Intergrated into MOBO)
And I'm running Windows Vista SP2 Home Basic

Any Help would be appricated.
Thanks

This is also the 3rd problem I've had with vista in the past year... Vista is a great operating system.

Do system sounds work? Do any other programs you may have (Realplayer, quicktime or whatever) work? - if either do then it's a problem with Media Player - use a different media player for now and it will probably sort itself out with the next lot of updates. If no sound comes from anything then try winding back the driver - in device manager click on the item, select the 'driver' tab and click on 'roll back driver'
