OK, having the product key means that there's a chance that you can use a generic Vista disk. If you don't know anyone with a Vista disk you can download the files and instructions from here: http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techno... - note that there are three files for each version and you will need all 3 - the largest is over 2.5Gb so make sure you do it on a fast unlimited connection.

Not easy as Vista isn't the same as XP where you could generally use an OEM disk and whatever key you had attached to the machine.

So first, what make of laptop is it? Do you have a sticker on the laptop with the activation key on it (usually on the base, sometimes under the battery) - if you don't have this then you have little option except to pay for recovery disks or put Linux on it.

Make and model will be be very useful to post. Depending on that depends whether or not you can download the recovery disc set.

Also if you can find sticker which will have the "key" for the original installation, you may be able to use that with fresh download of the Vista OS from a bona-fide source.

And are you certain the recovery partition has been deleted; it may still be there...?

If you're sure the recovery partition is gone you may be able to order restore disks from the laptop manufacturer.
