Does anyone know how to get the installer package for MS Works off of the recovery discs they make for you when you buy a computer? They made the recovery discs for me and my MS Works programs were messing up and told me to reinstall but when I try to, it asks for the disc. Works came preinstalled with my Vista OS. I don't have a disc. I posted my question in another forum and they told me to post in Windows Vista to see if someone could help me. I want to get the Works program back on my computer from the recovery discs or some other way. Please help!

Tammy

Microsoft works is okay if it had MS Word with it. Personally, I'd forget using MS Works and download Open Office from openoffice.org. It will open any word file as well as many other formats, and has most all the components that Microsoft Office has.....and it's free. A better package to use than Works.

Thank you for your response. I have done just that. The bad thing is that OO does not open .wps files which is what I had my stuff from MS Works saved as. It took me awhile but I figured out how to save those documents as a .rtf (Rich Text File) so it would open in Open Office. Now I am going to go back and delete all of the Works files out. This has been a real headache. Thanks again.

Try this converter. it changes .wps files to .doc files, then they will open.

What you describe is the exact problem with MS Works, Resume's etc that you may send to an employer etc, cannot usually be opened because everyone uses Office Word or similar and cannot open your resume.....works only works with works!!!
Your open office document can be opened with Office's Word etc, a much better package than Works! PS the converter I sent a link to will work just fine and leave them as .doc, rather than making everything .RTF and then converting them to .doc.
