no audio device installed

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, 1.662 GHz / 952 MB
hello this appears to be quite a common problem by the looks of things. Anyway as with most icon in the lower right of task bar has red cross and message pops up no audio device installed if i go into this i can see i have recording device but nothing in the playback page. I have had updates installed via packard bell updater and also windows nothing is working so far any help would be very appreciated thanks

have you tried Everest home or SIW to find your specific audio drivers?
Like you said you tried the Packard Bell site with no good results.

Did the audio EVER work? If yes, then why not try a system restore back to when it did work?

Thank you XpUser4Real for your help sorry about the delay in getting back but been a bit busy. Just in case this helps someone in the future i finally got it working had to go into control panel, sounds, click on driver properties do a complete uninstall and then go to packard bell site to reinstall that did the trick thanks again for the help the links were helpfull too will look at them again too
