Specs: Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, centrino/2Gig ram
Bought a used LE 1700 w/ View Anywhere screen. Should I invest in Win7 or just install XP which I already have restore disks and COA? Will the core duo processor & everything else work right with Win7 ? Heard there were problems with Vista...

If it ran Vista then it should have little problem in running Win7, which is a better long-term option than XP. If it actually boots & runs then run the Win7 upgrade advisor, available from here:

Thanks for your input.
HDD was wiped for security reasons before I got it. It will boot to BIOS but that's about all. Also, it finds (or is looking for?) NTFS file system, then re-tries...

Tried to load XP from Motion M 1400 restore disk, but there was something missing, wouldn't completely install (SP 1 missing?). Bought win8 & tried to install, but xp wasn't complete, so that wouldn't install either. Downloaded SP 1 and SP3: tried to burn to CD, but had problems with missing data, so it would not work. Going to try to get Vista from Motion site (le 1700s didn't come with restore disks?) or windows site...

You should wipe out all previous partitions, create new partitions (at least 2 - one for the OS, one for storage), format using NTFS, then run Windows setup. If your tablet has a SATA HDD, installing XP will be tricky. You'll most likely need to create a new XP disc with the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it. Probably a waste of time considering that XP is near it's EOL (end of life). I recommend Windows 7.

Had IDE in my M 1300s & M 1400s. Not sure what's in this LE 1700, except that it's really small: about 1.8"?
