logical conclusion is your video card died. Unit under warranty?

no warranty. 2+ years old. recently put in new hard drive about three months ago. everything was working fine....was told by my wife that the monitor went to sleep in the middle of surfing internet.
plugged in my sisters monitor to my system today and her monitor went right to sleep also.
when you say "check cable" do you mean i should try a new cable or just check that it is plugged properly?
is a new video card install something i can accomplish (as easy as the hard drive was for me)
how much for a new card +/-

Pull the old video card out and take it to a computer shop and say you want a replacement. Once you get a new one its just a matter of installing its drivers.
