Laptop Freezes When AC Power Plugged In

Specs: Windows Vista, Pentium Dual Ram 2
Whenever I plug in my toshiba laptop to AC power, everything freezes. If I start the computer by using AC power, it won't start.Please Help me its frustrating.

... take a good look @ the socket where the ac/dc adapter plugs into the laptop I remember fixing one when the middle section "pin" split (like a reed) and peeled back touching the outer connection.

... one section of the split bent backwards and was shorting the connection turning it off.

... I managed to just bend it back into shape, be carefull not to snap it!

Thanks for your response. I can charge the battery with the AC power plugged in but I have to unplug it to start up.
