If you have the Windows installation disc, you could try restoring windows, or if that fails, just reinstalling Vista.

Are you able to boot windows in safe mode?

If windows isn't loading and you don't have the install discs, you could always try the HDD in another computer and see if you can access the drive then. I wouldn't suggest trying to boot from the drive in another comp, just put it in as a secondary drive and once booted, see if it is recognized. You could then run chkdsk on it.

Does the keyboard connect using usb (square connector) or PS/2 (round connector)?

Some computer BIOS's can get a little "funny" with USB keyboards.

EDIT: Just read through again, saw "Swapped USB ports".

In that case, does the PC have a PS/2 port, and do you have a keyboard to try it out with?

Disconnect all other devices other than the keyboard and screen. If another device is maulfunctioning it could be interfering with the boot process.

hi.no,no and did that. left it off for one hour, switched on and went passed boot screen to next blank screen but hard drive failed to kick in and stilk no keyboard green light. had similar issues before and sorted itself out after leaving comp off for some hours. I know this FJ Scaleo has a cut out to protect the system but how long do most desktops cut out for? Comp off now. Will leave off for a few hours and will post an update. If no luck will try a new keyboard.

hi. i left the computer off for ten hours. i switched on and it booted to: menu start windows normally or safe mode. the system date was 13 May 2008. I chose safe mode then went to restore centre and chose restore point 4 days ago when I knew system was fine but after processing that it rebooted back to square one black screen. i think the boot files on hdd are not functioning right but dont have factory disks. i should have chose start windows normally as could have done more from there. i need system working cos of my ebay and will get behind if i cant resolve this. why after ten hours off does it boot ok and reads hdd? help!!
