Good luck getting any help from Yahoo tech support! I had this problem some 3+/- years ago too and lost all my contacts. I've complained and asked for help, but to no avail. Now with Yahoo's latest & most recent upgrade, they do ask if you want to switch to their new version and do give you the option to say "No".
I've said "no" but before they close down my email completely, they make it so that many functions don't work. Hard to understand why some folks think they have to re-invent the wheel! and fix what doesn't need fixing. It's a nuisance switching accounts, but if it'll make things easier in the long run, that's what I'd recommend. I had 3 yahoo account that lost all m'contacts. Complaining to Yahoo hasn't changed a thing!
