I/o error on new hard drive, what to do?

Specs: Windows VISTA, 3GB
I BOUGHT A NEW HD FOR MY TOSHIBA LAPTOP. IT WORKED FOR 2WKS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED WORKING. I AM NOW GETTING A BLACK SCREEN WHICH SAYS I/O ERROR HAS OCCURED. CAN ANYONE HELP?

I would say that the hard disk is likely to be dead - take it back to where you got it from and ask for a replacement
If the drive has important information on it, you could try booting into a linux environment and seeing what information that could be copied across from it

I/O Error refers to Input/output error, which means that the BIOS or Operating system is having trouble either reading the physical disk surface, or the drive is not responding. Either way as the drive is only 2 weeks old it should be under warranty
