Inability to access XP NTFS

Lenovo thinkpad / Sl500

Specs: vista, core 2, 3G ram
I just bought a Lenovo SL500 notebook with Vista home premium pre-installed.

Am trying to access my Maxtor ext Hdd (which is in XP NTFS format) but system return with an unable to access error.

Vista did recognized the drive as well as the format as NTFS, am using admin right as well so have all access right to files but the drive is shown as completely unaccessable in Vista.

Just check again the drive is completely normal in XP (using my desktop), is there any setting that I can fiddle with so I can access it with my laptop?

Am trying to replace my 5 years old desktop with this notebook so it is quite important for me to be able to swap files from my ext hdd backup.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Mark

Might have to take ownership of the files.

Hopefully it isn't encrypted.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

might have done something wrong. Went into the disk ownership page, set ownership to the notebook name but still couldn't access.

Strange...u can see window accessing the files after u click replace owner on subcontainer but after it is done, you still cant access the disk from my computer

Owner should be a user not the notebook name.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
