I have Windows Vista and it will not boot.

Specs: Windows 7
Ok so one morning I found out my computer is dead. I turn it on and there is this clicking sound then one of 3 screens show...either a blue screen stating something about corruption if this is your first time seeing this screen restart comp and run CHKDSK /F (needless to say I can't even do this), the second one wants to run a recovery (dosen't work either) and the third is a black screen saying something like 0 boot F1 to continue or F2 for setup. I can go to setup but I don't know what to do there because there isn't much. I cannot logon to my comp to reset back to factory settings or anything. Cannot even log on. Is this something to do with my C drive? Do I need a new computer? I would like to try and fix this myself especially if I do not have to buy another drive but if I have to then its all good. Any suggestions? Oh and I am not at my computer...at the inlaws :)

... there's some failing harddrive noises to compare here

... a hard clicking from the drive aint good, by the sounds of it (foregive pun) I'd say its toast!

... make sure its the hardrive making the noise!

Thanks for the link. I am afraid its "toast" as well but i'm keeping my fingers crossed! None of those noises are the ones mines make. Its like a clicking sound. Hopefully someone has some insight as to how I can atleast log onto my computer :(

Thanks again :)

... <F2> in the bios setup for this unknown pc can you see the harddrive listed?

... perhaps enable an auto detect function and make sure it's in the booting order sequence.

... you should be able to boot from cd/dvd and run "CHKDSK" if its set to boot from that device providing the harddrive is seen!

... save settings on exit of bios.

... have you not opened up the machine to check the drive or removed any roaches from the fan?

... a piece of wooden batten (or similar) onto the drive to your ear (push onto bone) should let you know!
