Specs: windows vista
i have a toshiba laptop and i was formatting the harddrive and all of a sudden i accidently unplugged the computer and it shut down in the middle of the format when i turned it on i had a blank screen and it says no operating system how do i reformat the harddrive and get to a command prompt so i can finish formatting the drive and put a operating system back on it

This is a Toshiba laptop. Unplugging should have no effect except that the battery may already be dead.

You can boot to a Vista dvd or Toshiba recovery dvd, if you have one, and continue from there.

Other than that, even if you have an operating system, you cannot format the system drive.

ok thank you but is there a wayof getting to a command promt so i can restart to format cuz when i put in the vista cd it doesnt want to recognize the harddrive for sum reason and i no the harddrive is fine what do i do..

If Vista DVD does not see the HDD, it could have been damaged.

Do you see the HDD in BIOS ?

Boot off to the Vista DVD and select Startup Repair and go from there.
