Specs: Windows XP, Intell Quad2 6600
Hi and thanks ahead of time for your help, after I log in to this computer after a while my mouse pointer will freeze up when I try to click on any icon then I can not shut down the system useing the start button. The monitor screen also starts flashing. In the past I noticed after my computer was on & in sleep mode I would go to my computer and find that I had to sign in again because the system had rebooted itself I was thinking the electrical power had failed. This computer is about 6 yrs old and the cmos battery is the original one.I keep the MoBoard, power supply & internals clean with cpu air. This system has a Intell Core 2 Quad prossor Q6600.

It could be overheating, or a driver issue, or infection, or any number of things. I suggest you stop using sleep, hibernate, or standby - those features are meant for mobile devices, not desktops. If you want to conserve power, simply adjust your power settings.

✔ Best Answer
If you haven't cleaned it out recently and are happy inside clean the following:

CPU heat Sink (usually possible with fan in situ).
Graphics Card heat sink if applicable.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
