Specs: Windows Vista
someone clean installed windows vista on my computer and it wiped everything off is there a way to restore it

look for a file called windows.old, if it was saved during the re installation your files will still be in there. If they are not and the drive was formatted, Vista and Windows 7 expand an image onto the drive which will make data recovery difficult. On top of this any files added after the installation reduce the chances of success. There are a few programs such "PC Inpsector" or "Recuva" that are free, but again the act of installing a small program could wipe out any chance of data recovery. I use Get Data Back, at the shop they use Easeus, but they require you to purchase them to get a full recovery if possible. Ideally you'd pull an image of the drive and work with that rather than writting data to the hard drive you are trying to recover. In general, I'd say you may recover some things, but a lot will be unrecoverable. Vista and Win 7 are a little less forgiving than XP.
