Solved How to get rid of outline?

March 30, 2013 at 12:35:09
Specs: Windows Vista
I also have an outline of a box on my desktop when I move the mouse and I am not holding down any button. Also, if the cursor scrolls over an icon it sometimes drags it without me holding down any button and when I am reading something the cursor is automatically highlighting lines that it scrolls over. This just started yesterday. I tried a system restore but that didn't work.

Too simple maybe but have you tried another mouse? Just wonder if the left button electrics (or mechanicals) have produced a fault where this button is permanently active. It would fit with the symptoms.

Try a different mouse.
Oops, Derek beat me to it.

The other possibility is that CLICK DRAG is activated
(see Mouse settings in Control Panel).

Derek: Sometimes the easy solutions are the right ones. A new mouse did the trick.
