Specs: Vista
Ive had my windows vista for about 3 years now? did me well. But just recently when I went to turn her on I got the blue screen of death and shutdown.. now when I try turn her on I get the "vista" logo and then nothing, just goes black. Im a bit of a noob with computers so I assume its a virus because I download to much stuff.. So now I think instead of buying a new computer Ill see if i can format this one? How do I do that? can I do that or is it beyond the point of return? (im posting this off another computer btw) I think I can also get my hands on an XP disk but not sure? thanks

The blue screen is more likely a driver or hardware failure. Formating will not fix either problem, if hardware you will have the same issue after reinstalling, assuming that the reinstall goes without bluscreening.
Try restarting in safe mode to see if boots in and check for driver errors.
