How to fix a W3653 emachine

Specs: Windows 7
My friends emachine crashed and it is on a black screen reading - BOOTMGR missing. I did the ctrl-alt-del and it won't go past that window. How can I fix it? He does not have any disc to fix it , it came pre installed with Windows Vista .. ANy help will be greatly appreciated !!!

Try the things on the link below. If they don't work you will need a windows vista or 7 disk to repair.

This assumes the hard drive hasn't failed. Might want to start there first.

Step 1: Check the BIOS to make sure the hard drive is being properly recognized.

The "Vista disc" is stored on the HDD. Your friend should have created the disc(s) the day he purchased the computer. If the HDD shows up in the BIOS he may be able to do a factory restore from the recovery partition, but he will likely lose all his files, photos, word docs, programs, etc. Hopefully he has backups? If the above doesn't work, try starting the computer from a full shutdown & tap the F11 key.
