How to enter data in Windows Explorer Columns

Windows explorer allows the use of a variety of columns to be displayed, and Google list many links to articles on how to select column headings. I have yet to find an article on how to enter data.
If I select, e.g. the column "Comments" which is in the list of available columns, I can not find a way to enter data. When you look at a file's property window, it does not even show the column heading.
How do I enter a comment for a specific file?

I'd like to know the same thing. Whats the point at having a bunch of columns with no data to read or save.

Right click on the file and select properties. Click on the Details tab and you can enter all sorts of data.

After looking into this some, I discovered the following:
Vista allows for entering data in user selected columns only for a few file types like .doc, .jpg, and .xls. For most other types, Vista does not allow entering data (.txt, .exe, .com, .bat, .pdf, and many more). Another case of Microsoft arbitarily deciding what the user should do and what not.
