How long should AOMEI Differential backup files be kept?

October 24, 2014 at 17:59:21
Specs: Windows Vista
I have a 500 GB external hard drive. This was the size hard drive I could afford. I have been using AOMEI Backupper free to do weekly differential hard drive backups. In order to gain more space on the external which backup should I delete first? The ones that were done a few months ago or the most recent one? How long should I keep the differential back ups? How long should I keep the system backups? I have a system backup from 4/2014. Do I still need to save it? Thanks for your help.

You only need to keep the differential backups done since the last full backup. If you only ever did an initial full back up then you need to do another full backup now, you can delete the previous full one and delete the differential ones done since then. It is the full backup that is the important one so if you do a full one now you can delete the ones from April.

About the differential backup, it just backs up the changed data since the full backup. When we recover the files from backup, we just restore from the full backup and the latest differential backup.

At least I just do like that with EaseUS Todo Backup, but be sure your is differential backup, not incremental backup, and you must have one full backup.

Suggest every month you save one full backup and the latest differential backup.
